The Arabesque in a Calla Lily

Monet has his haystacks, George Morandi his bottles, Cezanne his Mont Sainte Victoire. There are probably many other artists obsessed with a specific thing to make art with.

I’m very far from counting myself among those masters, but I do see how easy it is to get mired in one subject matter. For me, recently, it’s the calla lily. Which I think also fascinated Diego Rivera. I don’t know what drew him to it. For me, it’s line, first all. That sinuous arabesque. After that, in this digitized virtual reality world we live in, it’s trying to nuance white in digital art-making.

I’ve shown this one before. In fact, a slice of it is the header for Evy Writes.
